The future of chinese education

March 20th, 2007 by esl2torrewu in Uncategorized · No Comments

China’s basic education includes pre-school education, nine-year compulsory education from elementary to junior high school, ordinary senior high school education, special education for disabled children, and education for illiterates.
There are more than 200 million elementary and high school students in China. Together with pre-school children, they account for one-sixth of the whole population. For this reason the Central Government has given priority to development of basic education as a key field of infrastructure construction and educational development.
In recent years, senior high school education has developed steadily. In 2003 the enrollment was 7.52 million, 3.1 times that in 1988. Today, the national gross enrollment in senior high schools is only 42.8 percent, much lower than that of developed countries.
The Central Government has invested special funds to improve conditions of elementary and high schools around the country. Some school buildings have been built and expanded, and some crumbling school buildings have been rebuilt. The per-capita educational fund for elementary and high school students has greatly grown. Teaching and research equipment, books and documents in schools have been updated and replenished every year.

According to the World Education Report of 1993,issued by the UNESCO(United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization),there are still more than 900 million illiterate adults in the world.
Though the Chinese government has made great strides in eliminating illiteracy since 1949,China still has 145 million illiterates over the age of 15 according to China’s 1995 sample survey of one-percent of its population,70 percent are women and 37.55 million are between the ages of 15 and 45.
Since 1980s,China has cooperated extensively with UNESCO,the United Nations Population Fund,the Asian Cultural Center and the International Adult Education Council in its anti-illiteracy campaigns and in post-literacy education. The Ministry of Education plans to continue its cooperation with UNESCO in exchanges,staff training,teaching material compilation and projects relating to anti-illiteracy,post-literacy education and adult education.
In China,education is regarded as both an individual benefit and a social necessity. It is a general view that every Chinese has the right and obligation to become educated. Chinese believe that,throught education,an individual acquires the knowledge,skills,attitudes and abilities which will enable him to fit into society and improve his social status. Education helps to shape the society and develop the national strength. Very often,they look to education as the cause of the future of the nation depends largely on education.
Chinese education system consists of 4 categories,namely: elementary education,vocational and technical secondary education,higher educaton and adult education. Elementary education refers to pre-school education, primary education, secondary education, namely: kindergarten, primary school and middle school(junior middle school+senior middle school). According to the Law on Compulsory Education promulgated by the state,all children before 16 years old have an obligation to receive education. At present,there are 165,200 kindergartens with more than 25,000,000 children in China, 687,000 primary schools with more than 1,240,000,000 children,68,415 junior middle schools with more than 40 million students,and 14,380 high schools with more than 6 million students. In addition,there are 1,123 special schools for the deaf and mute,the retarded and the handicapped. More than 168,600 students are accepting education.
Each year,parents have to pay about 300-500 yuan for a child to study in the primary school. A little child would go to primaryschool when he is at 6. Generally,primary school has 6 grades,so children always graduate at 12. After primary school,he will study in junior middle school for 3 years,then taking part in the entrance exams to high school or secondary specialized school. In fact,he can choose what kind of school he prefers to. In the secondary specialized school,he could listen to some special lessons,such as computer and English. He can choose either as his major. The tuition cost of this school is more expensive than high school. Learning in such kind of school will spend at least 2,000-3,000 yuan each year. But in junior middle school or high school,it is only 500-800 yuan a year. When he graduates from high school,there is another exam waiting for him—College Entrance Exam. If he passes the exam,he could go to college,otherwise,he has to look for a job. If his parents can support him,he could study aboard.

The War

March 20th, 2007 by esl2torrewu in Uncategorized · No Comments

What’s war? It’s scare, shadoe and the worst invention of human beings. It destroys the
human civilization, and represents the evil.It continues to develop polity. It’s the common
way to solve problems among the the different countries.
The sequels of war are victory or failure.Everyone needs victory at the end of every
war.So we should find some factors that how to win the war.In every war, especially in
modern war, victory depends on several factors such as polity, economy, and military.
The major factors include quantity and quality of armies. The officers’ organizational
ability, stratagem, tactics, the quality of weapons and logistics are important ,too.National
economy restricts nation military power,It’s significant condition to win the war.It also
means that war is the economic competition among different countries.
Weapons are important in the war,but they are not the determinative factor. It’s human.
People control the weapons in every war, they use their power and brain to win the war.So
braveness, brightness and command are very important in every war.

Actually war is diplex-detroy or improve.Sometimes it can improve human civilizations,
sometimes,it can destroy all.If we study the world history,we can find that human’s every big
progress is related with war.The advanced fertility and civilization are blazed abroad by
war.War can remove people’s inherent inertias, force people to think and change themselves
at the several aspects. In ancient China, the strongest Qin dynasty consolidates its dominion
and control the ancient China land by several wars.It also unifies the metrology and language.
That’s help to accelerate the speed of development in ancient China. The empire is the first
one in China. In another places, the empire of Spain and Great Britain spread their civilizations
aboard by wars, especially in South America and Africa. The Christianism comes to America and Africa,
so does the advanced civilization. China needs innovate and open, try to learn more useful information
from America. It’s same that the America tries to spread the advanced American civilization in Middle
East now. So recently, they fight with terrorists and overthrow the autocracy in Iraq by war.

Human civilization needs to develop.war can detroy any unenglishtened nation, though it’s
not the best way. Some people fight for their ideals and freedom. They also fight for the progress
of human civilization,they are heroes.
We are not looking forward to the war.We can’t be a mere onlooler and have a very narrow
view.We don’t need war ,but we should prepare for next war.Probably ,peace is just a period
of armistice.

Litrary criticism—– Jean Eyre

December 17th, 2006 by esl2torrewu in Uncategorized · No Comments

It is said that Jean Eyre was an orphan. She was lived at Gateshead, her aunt Mrs Reed’s home. Her childhood was lonely. Love has never been present in her stifling life. Aunt loathed her. The cousins looked down upon her. Even the maids disliked her. Instead of giving in, Jean Eyre became strong. Her self-respect made her more and more firm and brave. Books were Little Jean’s only friends. Through reading, she was better at thinking and riper than other children at the same age. Because once was locked in a red haunted room alone, Jean was hurt badly. She quarreled with her aunt. Mrs Reed couldn’t bear Jean’s temper any longer. So she decided to send her to school.
Then, at a dark cold night, Jean Eyre, a ten-year-old little girl, left for Lowood alone by coach. Lowood was a charity school. Though there was no beautiful clothes, no delicious food and no comfortable life, Jean was merrier than before. She found sincere friendship there. And her brain was filled with knowledge. She spent eight years at Lowood—six years as a student and two years as a teacher. Her ability and dream didn’t allow herself to continue staying in this remote place. She determined to start a new life.
So, Jean Eyre became a governess for a little girl at Thornfield. Thornfidle Hall was a large house which belonged to Mr Rochester . Mr Rochester was a 35 rich gentleman. His wisdom, calm and reason made his not handsome appearance attractive. The new governess’s intelligence and character had a strong appeal to him. Even wan weak Jean was a beauty in his eyes. They couldn’t help falling in love. Let’s skip over the mix and pathos between this couple of lovers. An accident happened when they were taking wedding. A man said that Mr Rochester had been married with his sister a few years ago. As a matter of fact, Mr Rochester was deceived when he’s young by his father and brother who were intend on nothing but profit. He didn’t realize his wife a vulgar lunatic until they got married. Jean felt deeply grieved. She left Thornfield silently and sorrowfully.
This time, she arrived at a little town accidentally. Perhaps it was the God’s order. She found her relatives and got a legacy unexpectly there. When his brother asked her to marry him just for career but not for love, Jean thought of Mr Rochester. She loved him in her inner heart all the time. She never stopped missing him.
Jean returned to Thornfield. She only found a ruins. Someone told her Thornfield got a fire. That mad woman jumped off the building and died. Mr Rochester became blind and lost an arm as a result of helping others. Jean felt compunction very much. She found Mr Rochester in a little house in forest and comforted this hurt man with love. Finally, they got married. They lived happily together.
Maybe Jean Eyre was unfortunate. She started her life with all the misfortunes from nature and society. She had no parents, no treasure, no power and no beauty. She was too staunch to charm common people. Because she never docilely accepted the worst her environment had given her.
But in my opinion, Jean Eyre was fortunate at the same time. She had a heart made from strength, tolerance and universal love. She could rescue herself without other’s help. The God granted her a belief. A belief that she would never give in no matter where she was. The more she has crossed the difficulties, the more she became strong. She knew clearly that courage was inversely proportional to trouble. Jean shouldered all her own life with the weak body. She wasn’t like the female leads in a great love story. But she had the behavior equaled to that. Other’s words couldn’t stop her imagining good life of herself. She didn’t accept the lowly position in the society. She asked to be heart: Maybe she was a nobody. But she could determine her own destiny. Maybe she wasn’t pretty. But she was worse loving.
Jean Eyre’s unluckiness brought her luckiness. Her self-respect, self-reliance, strength, tolerance and compassion made us remember and admire her forever.
I believe, Jean Eyre must be the most beautiful woman in the world.

Literary Criticism—- The lord of the rings

December 17th, 2006 by esl2torrewu in Uncategorized · No Comments

This is a popular film.

This film is a story about an imaginary world where the human, the genius, the pigmy and other species lives. And the main point of the story is the ring, which can make everyone crazy, for it has a special power, and he who ever has this power can control the world. And now it’s time to destroy the ring.A little man was chosen to be the one, the one who has duty to destroy the ring and save the whole world form the control of the fiend. He and his friends began their journey to destroy the ring, going through many difficulties, and spent an arduous period of time. He resisted the allure of the ring, and at last won this battle with the demons, as well as himself. After seeing this film, I have thinking for one thing, that is who is the most terrible enemy in this word to you? And then I found the answer——oneself. Yes, the biggest enemy for everyone is himself. If you can win yourself, the your can win everything. When we failed, we must be strong to believe that one day we will succeed; when we was misunderstood by others, we must stick to our own heart and never to satisfy others by losing ourselves; We must be self-confidential, self-respect, self-restraint and self-love. That what the film told me, and I will try to make it effected.
